Fly on Bulova time - In 1926, Ardé Bulova offered the prize of $1,000 to the first pilot to successfully make a nonstop flight across the Atlantic using a particular watch model known as the Bulova 'Conqueror'. Of course, Bulova saw the potential for the world's first commemorative watch to mark the occasion and the potential to launch a perfect marketing campaign.
On May 21, 1927, American aviator Charles Augustus Lindbergh gained instantaneous world fame by winning the Orteig Prize for completing the first solo, nonstop, transatlantic flight from New York City to Paris in 33 hours and 30 minutes, timed by the Bulova 'Conqueror' wristwatch.
In the Sayville (NY) Suffolk County News of May 2nd, 1930, a Mr. H.H. Taub of Bulova stated that "his company gave every aviator who attempted to hop the ocean a watch". The watch was the Bulova 'Conqueror', being "one of the hardest sellers in the company's line". The article stated that within just 48 hours of Lindbergh's landing in Paris, Bulova received orders totaling 30,000 requests for the watch. At the same time, Bulova's own history books tell that the company sold 5,000 of these watches within 3 days after the landing.
“Supreme on land, sea and In the Air!”
The watch that was originally named the Bulova 'Conqueror' became known as the Bulova 'Lone Eagle' on June 17, 1927. That same day, Bulova hit the market with adverts using the 'Lone Eagle' name with a box and letter from Lindbergh: "The Bulova Wrist Watch, which it is my pleasure to wear, keeps accurate time and is a beauty".
From 1928 onwards a few other confirmed variant models were release. One of them, the second version case style, the 1929-1930 Lone Eagle - Tonneau shaped model and we know that different case/color styles were released as well.

“Every man will want this watch!” – “Aristocrat of Beauty”
We are presenting the watch you always wanted, “The World Famous” Bulova 1930 'Lone Eagle' tonneau shaped case model. The case back is stamped “PAT. JAN. 11. 1927” indicating that it is part of the 'Lone Eagle' stamps post August 1927. Interesting is the reference is the movement serial number (935318) that matches perfectly with the production year (1930), the number of jewels (15) and the caliber (10AL).

This STUNNING AND UNIQUE timepiece is still preserved in time. “The Lone Eagle is rich in beauty, masculine in sturdiness.” The stunning tonneau shaped (patented Bulova Dust-Tite) case is 26.6mm wide with the handsome art deco hand-engraved design on the sides, bezel, and lugs, all in white gold filling. The back of the case is curved for a comfortable fit.
Inside, this watch is powered by the original 15 jeweled Swiss Bulova movement caliber 10AL dated from 1930 and a sub second hand. It still has the fine radium dial contrasting perfect with the case design, luminous Arabic numerals, and the railroad minute track.
Just as the original, this watch is coming with a period-correct art deco engraved one-piece bracelet signed Staber Quality. We are offering this watch with an additional brown two-piece genuine leather strap that is also period-correct.
This is a special timepiece that is perfect for displaying in its beautiful, original, Bulova 1929/30 presentation box with a replica of Lindbergh's signed letter.
A note that we discovered in its presentation box indicates that this wristwatch was given to "the best man on Earth" for his birthday, September 23, 1930, and Christmas. The note will remain with this watch.
After almost 100 years, we can say that this unique and stunning wristwatch and its box are still in good condition. The watch runs very well and keeps great time.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.
We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear but is fully operational and functions as intended.
Please review the photos and feel free to ask any questions you may have.
It will be carefully packed.
